Silent Key - Colorado QRP Club On April 04, 2007, we received this report about Chuck Mitchel (WB9NWF), CQC #601, from Brian Smith, W9IND Hi Roger, Good to hear from you. I don't have all of the specifics at my fingertips (I can get them from his wife the next time I talk with her), but to cover the basics, Chuck died in early July 2000 from a rare and mysterious form of lymphoma. Apparently the doctors gave him an excellent chance of recovery, but he didn't respond to treatment the way most people do. His wife told me that medical scans of the disease produced images that were different from the way lymphoma usually appears, and his doctors were at a loss to explain why. Chuck was only 41 years old (possibly 40) and, even more tragically, had just become a father for the first time. His wife told me that she has only one photo of him with his son -- taken in the hospital after he'd lost a considerable amount of weight. (I haven't seen it yet and am not sure I want to.) Chuck is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, Christopher; and his parents, whose names I don't know. Truly one of the nicest guys I've ever known. In fact, our radio clubhouse, known as the Comm Center, is in the process of obtaining a portrait-type photo of Chuck to hang inside the entrance. (It serves the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Amateur Radio Club, W9IMS; the Legion of Indianapolis DXers, W9VW; and a couple of other local clubs.) Hope this fills you in sufficiently. As I said, if you'd like, I'd be glad to get more info from his wife. 73 to you and yours, Brian, W9IND Respectfully submitted by Roger J.
