Silent Key - Colorado QRP Club 11-17-1947 to 11-20-2015 Michael Stark, WA5OIP - Colorado QRP Club member # 141 It was with sadness that the Colorado QRP Club learned of Mike's passing on November 20, 2015 in Albuquerque after a lengthy illness. Born November 17, 1946 in Tacoma, Washington, Mike grew up living all around the United States as a "military brat," graduating from Gwynn Park Senior High School in Brandywine, Maryland and attending the University of Maryland at College Park before moving with his family to Albuquerque in 1965. Mike enlisted the next year in the US Air Force and served for four years, including a tour in Southeast Asia. After his military service he resumed his studies, earning a Geology degree in 1977 and an Executive MBA in 1997 from the University of New Mexico. Mike's career was widely varied, from electronics and machining to work in high-energy physics to broadcast radio and television engineering, eventually retiring from Sandia National Laboratories and from UNM. He volunteered with local radio emergency and search-and-rescue services, the regional Science and Engineering Fairs, the City of Albuquerque Open Space division and at Popejoy Hall. Mike's hobbies included amateur radio, photography, woodworking, gunsmithing, collecting antique tools, exotic birds, ballooning, playing the flute, four-wheeling, and camping.
