Run for the Trees!
Text submitted by N1FN
Winner - Al KØFRP On the air at 3:50 ET (3 minutes 50 seconds elapsed from
start), winning QSO at 4:58 ET with W1AW/5, op ED, in TX. That was actually
Al's fourth QSO, but they were contest stations and Al couldn't get the
necessary operator name and state out of the first three guys. Not a bad
example of what the RFT is all about-- all equipment carried 50 yards, set up,
on the air, and a QSO in less than 5 minutes.
Al's station: K2 running 5W CW to a vertical dipole on 20M.
Second Place - Dick ABØCD using an FT-817, 5W SSB to a sloping dipole on 20m.
On the air at 4:20 elapsed, and QSO at 8:05 elapsed.
Also ran for the trees: Daniel NØBN with an MFJ 4020 running 5W CW to a Hustler vertical.
Also ran for the trees: Vince KIØRB with and FT-817, 5W PSK-31 and CW to a maldol whip (tried 15 and 20).
